British Dog Names - Sir Olliver Twist

Sir. Olliver Twist ~Ollie~

Sir. Olliver Twist ~Ollie~

He is so full of energy and fun, that's the twist part. He is also very proud and regal looking, hence the Sir. It kind of sounds like some British dog names. And as for his given name... He just always looked like an Olliver to me. xox

British Dog Names - Prince Henry

by Stacie
(Marietta, GA)

I've always wanted a son and since I have a daughter I chose the name Prince Henry for my Maltese. Prince because he is the the prince of our home and Henry for my recently deceased grandfather. It also sounds like a British dog name.

British Dog Names - Elliot

by trish
(Dublin, CA)

Elliot is the name of my micro teacup Morkie and he's 3.5 lbs full-grown!

The name Elliot has dignity, depth, uniqueness, history and British roots, like the Yorkshire. It is also HILARIOUS! When people meet this 3.5 lb furball of enthusiasm and I introduce him as Elliot I always get a good laugh from others... even the most serious types (those reticent people who are watching their partner/child fall all over him with a dour expression are some who appreciate the name the most!).

I waited for weeks before I found the right name... refusing to succumb to those who said, "You better name him! He will have an identity crisis if you don't!" By the time he was 15 weeks, I found one of the best British dog names Elliot and it was a MATCH! It is perfect for him!

He comes to it and wags his tail when he hears it. It is a great name to use with "tone" when you find a surprise on the floor, "Elllllliooooooooottt, what did I just step in?"; "...where is my cellphone?"; ...what are you doing upstairs (it sounds like he has Cirqe de Soleil up there with him... running random laps at high speed and doing acrobatics in the empty upstairs bedroom!).

However, since I didn't have a name for him for so many formative weeks, he still comes to "I love you..." because I said that to him so many zillions of times. When he was "lost" inside the house once (turned out he had learned how to climb stairs and was stuck halfway up, fearing the descent) I didn't know how to find him, since he still had no name. Finally, I walked around the house saying, "I love you..." and he did his happy dance and I heard his little feet on the hardwood stairs...he was rescued! I love you still works in a pinch when he is indecisive about coming when I call him by name, Elliot.

In this photo, my Morkie puppy is about 3 months old.

It helps to have a great dog name because when people are delighted with the name, the dog thinks they are delighted with him and it starts things on the right foot.
