Cairmal - Florrie

by Amy
(England)

Our Cairmal is now a year old. She is a fantastic little dog and we love her to bits. She loves her walks and lots of human company. Not a great guard dog as anyone who visits the house gets licked non stop.

She loves seeing other dogs and will stand on her back legs for for long periods just watching them. She looks like a mere cat when she does this. She also loves to dance for a treat. She is so nosey and inquisitive.

How do others groom their Cairmals? We bathe her once a week as she gets very greasy and smelly. We had her groomed and they practically shaved her. She looked like she was ready to join the army! Not keen to get this done again. Her coat is very woolly and we groom her daily. How do others groom their dog?

Casey and Nellie
by: Amy and Florrie

Hi,

Glad to hear from you both. Florrie is doing well and getting cuter as she is getting older.
We had the same problem with the snow. It attached to her coat in clumps, which was really difficult to remove. I resorted to putting her in a luke warm bath to melt it off her. We spent 2 weeks in Inverness at my parents over Christmas and New Year, and it snowed non stop. The snow was so deep, she was getting lost in it.
She wasn't keen on it at all! Florrie and I are just back again from Inverness and the Isle of Skye, and guess what, it snowed non-stop again! I think Florrie is well fed up of snow!! Keep in touch with news of Nellie,
Amy

Hello Again!
by: Anonymous

Hi Amy and Florrie, Its Casey and Nelly here!

We just thought we'd check in with you and see how everything is going...I keep getting e-mails and updates from Maltese Maniac and i always wonder how Nellys double is doing :D

How did you guys handle the winter?
Nelly seemed to enjoy it enough, although she would only stay out in the snow for maximum half an hour, then her poor little paws would freeze up with gathered ice that got stuck in her fur...she would actually limp home and fall asleep infront of the heater!

Hope you are well.

Casey and Nelly

Re- Florrie
by: Casey

HI Amy, i answered your post straight away but rather dopily on my own page... so i'll post it again on yours now :)

'Thats exactly what i thought when i saw Florrie's photo! You were my inspiration for sending something in about Nelly, i got so excited to find another dog so similar! My first question to you is has Florie always been so light? I'm afraid Nelly is going to come through white....

No we havn't had her trimmed yet...and i won't be thinking about it till Spring now as i think she's going to need her nice warm coat in the Winter...but i would suggest (and probably do myself next year) a techniqe that lots of dog breeders use (for Australian Silky Terriers and Griffon Bruxellois for example, my family breeds both) called 'Stripping', of course they do it for show dogs, its basically plucking the hair out little tufts at a time its doesn't hurt the dog as much as you think its more uncomfortable for them...look into it as its better for thinning a coat rather than chopping it all off.'
