Dog Food Allergies

by Kim Pulsipher
(Fort Myers, Florida)

I found out accidentally that my Rosie is sensitive to wheat. I changed her food and kept her off of wheat for about 3 months.

Now she can tolerate small amounts, which is good because one of her favorite treats is dry macaroni noodles. Crunch Crunch!

Eye Stain vs. Hypo-Allergenic Dog Food
by: Mark Grove

We recently came into possession of a 3yr. old orphaned Maltese Terrier. When we got him he had some slight eye stain and the tips of his rear feet had a pinkish cast. After having him thouroughly checked out by local Veternarians to insure that he was healthy and to update all his shots, in discussion at that time it was their opinion that the dog had allergy/allergies and suggested trying feeding hypo-allergenic dog food and the eye stain should disappear. We have been feeding him only this type of dog food for several months now and he no longer has any eye stain and also he no longer has the pinkish cast on his rear feet. There are many different flavors of hypo-allergenic dog foods as well as different types of treats so you can give them some variety. The only down side is that the hypo-allergneic dog food is more expensive to buy, but with a small breed like the Maltese, it doesn't put you in the "poor house". We have found this type of dog food at some pet supply stores is somewhat more reasonable than if purchased from a Veternary Clinic. This has certainly worked for us and might be worth a try for others as a remedy for the eye stain and the continuous need for treatment.
