Keeshound Golden Retriever Maltese Mix - Winston

by Gayle Schmid
(Kensington, CA USA)

Keeshound, Golden Retriever, and Maltese mix

Keeshound, Golden Retriever, and Maltese mix

Winston is a 2-1/2 year old Keeshound Golden Retriever Maltese mix. I got him from Milo Foundation in San Rafael, California. They rescue dogs slated for disposal. Everyone thought he looked like a Labadoodle; However, he was described as the most mellow fellow they had seen. Milo Foundation was right.

So I had his DNA done. I've had my Maltese mix Winston a year. He is reserved, obedient, only barks when he plays, runs to the door without barking when someone approaches. He is 23 lbs.

To Misa Bellas Mommy, The DNA cost about $65. I took saliva from his mouth and mailed it to BioPet Vet Lab. They give you Levels 1-5 as to what percentage a breed shows up in the DNA. So they had no picture of Winston. He came back Level 2 (37 to 74%) of Keeshound and Maltese, and Level 3 (20 to 36%) Golden Retriever. Regarding trusting the DNA, I understand that a Vet could take his blood and have it done which may be more accurate. Some people don't trust the DNA process and say it is a ripoff. But if I look at Winston, I can see the Maltese and Keeshound. But I also can see some Retriever. Who know though. Gayle
