Maltese Adoption from a Friend

I did a Maltese adoption from friend of a friend who was a breeder had 4 Maltese dogs she no longer could maintain the upkeep. He was 3 when I adopted him, (free!) not house trained and very shy. I have house-trained him, and socialized him. He is very loving, and faithful to me.
He still is afraid of my husband, I think he may have been treated badly by a man at some point. I would never give him up he is sooo special.
