Hookie-Lau
My family and I brought our Maltese mix Pekingese Hookie-Lau home about a year ago, at the time he was 5 months old. He was living in a large gated area with about 10 other small dogs. When we brought him home he was scared at first; new people and a home without any other animals. He was petrified to be alone, he would wimper and cry when no one was home, or even when we left him alone downstairs. He would not sleep unless someone was downstairs with him. In addition, we had to buy gates and block him from going upstairs, and in carpeted areas of our home. Housebreaking took a few months, and still he will not go to the bathroom outside unless we take him for a walk. We still must leave newspaper down for him if we are gone for more than 2 hours. He shredded and chewed EVERYTHING he could get in the house. I have lost count of the number of pairs of shoes he has destroyed. Once we left the closet door open and he got hold of an entire sheet of wrapping paper which was shredded into little bits.
But as time went on, my family and I learned, and so did he. Our Maltese Pekingese is comfortable in our home, doesn't mind spending time alone and can sleep alone as well. He is loving and adorable. At times, he is very jumpy and can bite when he thinks your are playing with him, but he is still young and we know he is trying to be playful. His energy level is through the roof and he loves running around outside and going for walks. He loves attention and loves when visitors come to the house. He is a little picky about his food, we had to try a few brands before we found one that he liked. Now, things are much better and everyone in my family loves our dog!!
