A Little Stubborn with Training
by: Gabi's Mom

These little dogs are known for being a little stubborn with potty training. Gabi is pad trained, since in the Northwest we have snowy winters. Gabi also goes outside. To train her, we found a nook in the house where we could put pads down (several), then gated it in with a baby gate. We put her in there several times a day, then when we saw her go, we would reward her "Good Girl". After she went she could come out. Eventually, she got the hang of it and we started one by one reducing the pads, but kept the gate up. If you continue to do this, eventually you take down the gate then he/she knows that's where to go. We choose not to crate train Gabi, we just felt caging our little baby just wasn't for us. The only time we wish she would go into a kennel is when we travel by car, cause she is a nervous traveler.

Breeders & Health
by: Gabi's Mom

Gabi was born on the Indian reservation near Spokane and welped with both parents present. They were not breeders, it was actually my granddaughter who bred them. As far as reputable breeders in this area, I would contact Ponti Veterinary and have them provide you with a reputable breeder, they are our Vet. Also, on Trent in the Valley, there is a rescue place, called Partners for Pets 893-9829. Gabi's health has been good, though Shih Tzu's and Maltese are both proned to back problems, since they have a long body and short legs. It's a disc problem which can be painful, but with care and understanding of the disease, it can be handled well. I've found this breed to be extremely affectionate and loyal. They love to cuddle and do not like being left alone.

Finding a Reputable breeder/spokane, wa.
by: Anonymous

I love the story of Gabi the maltese/shih tzu mix puppy. We are currently looking for one and live in Spokane, WA. How do we find a reputable breeder in our area? Are these little dogs generally a healthy breed? Would appreciate any/all information. Thank you.

HELP
by: Brenda

I just bought my first Maltese/shih tzu pup, yesterday. He is only 6 weeks old and I am uncertain as wheter or not to cage train him. So many people have told me it is an excellent training method. Can you help me out as I have never done this. I really don't know what to do.
I have an older maltese and he is housebroken and just an amazing dog.

Gabi's Ending Size
by: Gabi's Mom

I must have put down the wrong weight on my posting, but Gabi has turned out to only weigh 6.8 lbs at almost 8 months old. So, we figure she's not going to get much larger. She continues to be a wonderful companion and we love her so much. Her first camping adventure in our 5th wheel went well and now she's looking forward to a longer stay this time. This one will be a two week vacation and there will be alot more dogs around, so she will get the full brunt of our camping experience.

Thank you for your continued comments !!
