Maltese Westie Mix Puppy - Addie

by Madi B.
(NC)

I have a Westie Maltese mix puppy named Addie. She is a female, and she is only 3 weeks old. I will visit her for the first time when she is about 5 weeks old. I have never seen her before, not even in pictures, I have just been told what she looks like. I do know that she is white though! Addie will move into her new home when she is about 8 weeks old.

When I meet Addie, I will be sure to show everyone pictures! Also, I will update them when she comes home! Wish us luck, and if you have ANY tips, please do not hesitate to tell! (This is the first time I have had a small breed dog of my own, but I have lived around a few before.) So please, if there is anything I need to know!

I have been doing some researching on the Westie, and Maltese breeds. I have gotten a bit confused on size predictions though. Addie's current owner (The one who is selling her to me.) says she will get no bigger than 7 pounds. (Please keep in mind, her litter was only 2 pups including herself, and she was smallest out of the two.) BUT- The Westie breed is a dog that is bigger than the Maltese. So... how big is my dog going to get? This site says she will get 11-16lbs... but her breeder says different.

If you can help me out, or have some advice on my new Maltese Westie mix mini mutt, post a comment here!

Maltese Westie mix
by: Anonymous

We have just adopted al Maltese Westie mix. We had seen a picture on pet finder and fell in love. We did not know anything of either breed other than what we had read on the Internet previous to adopting. Our girl Lola is 14lbs and 2 years old. At her adoption vet check she was 12lbs and the vet said that was her ideal weight. She is very lovable, but also can be quite spirited. She is quite a hunter, we live in FL
So sometimes keeping her under control on her walks is a challenge, She will find every frog, bug and lizard along the way.

Addie will be bigger than 7 lbs!
by: Ana Long

In my opinion, there is no way your pup will stay at 7 lbs! I have a maltese/shih-tzu mix, he is one year old and he reached 16 lbs by the time he was 10 months old. He has hovered around that weight for the past 4 months or so. That being said, Westies on average are even larger than Shih-tzu's.

My other dog a pure breed Shih-tzu is 8 months old and she is only 7 lbs and I'm expecting her to get no bigger than maybe 9-10 lbs at most. Either way, they are both beautiful and a pleasure to live with! Enjoy your new puppy!! :)
