Maltese Westie Mix - Teddy
Teddy is a Maltese Westie mix and he is deaf. He is a rescue dog that we got from a vet a couple of states away. His owners had him for a year and realized that he couldn't her so they dropped him off at the vet and left. We later got Teddy, and he was shaggy with fleas all over him and was just a mess.
Now he is very happy. He walks really funny with his front paws dragging (which is really weird) ahead of him and kind of jumps. He loves to play with our dog but when we take him to the park he won't play with any of the dogs there. He always wants to play with our other dog and us. If you put a blanket over him then he will bite the blanket, move around, and kind of play with it. Sometimes he rolls in it. When he finds his way out he REALLY wants to play and he will pester our other dog. She gets really tired of him. After a bath, Teddy rolls ALL over the floor trying to dry off and then runs all over our house. When he goes down the stairs he jumps over like the last three steps and falls down on his stomach usually-but sometimes he lands on his paws.
He doesn't like very many dogs but LOVES people. Sometimes when he sleeps he will go in his cage and go to sleep. When we find him he will sometimes be on his back with his paws up and looks like he is dead. We have trained him and he knows many hand signals including sit, down, shake, outside, walk, ride, stay, and much more. Teddy doesn't sit like normal dogs. He will sit down in our kitchen and his legs gradually slide out until finally they are sideways and his legs can't do any farther.
When he goes outside in our backyard, he loves to bark at the dogs behind us. He loves to chase birds and squirrels and has almost caught a couple of squirrels. Teddy loves to chew on every thing! He has chewed on the side on our hutch in the kitchen, shoelaces, trash bags, shoes, squeaky toys, tennis balls, etc. Like my mom says, he has a great character.
