Maltichon - Louie

Our Maltichon was a stray- I actually rescued him running down the middle of a highway during a bad storm.. Every effort was made to find his family with no luck- so he's our baby now.
We have a 3 year old and 2 elderly cats and if he had shown any sign of "nippiness" we would have passed on becoming owners. We have always had BIG dogs so this was a change for us- Both of our beloved Lab mixes died within 9 months of each other not very long before we found Louie-
We were NOT in the market for another pet- feeling that our life was "Full" enough with taking care of our daughter.
My husband was REALLY against getting a dog and wanted me to drop him off at the No Kill shelter the morning after his rescue. I came home after working the next night and found the dog fast asleep in our bed- tucked in with my husband!!
Needless to say- that was it. Our Maltichon was family from that night on and continues to sleep peacefully between my husband and I. He puts up with my less then gentle 3 year old with infinite patience and has taken a very NON Alpha Dog position with our cats.
In summary- he is wonderful, smart, sweet, great with kids, cats, other dogs, just everybody and everything. He does REFUSE to go outside in the rain to pee/poop- so we have puppy pads down for our bad weather days- but generally he goes outside and is a total joy. Everywhere we take him people comment how cute and sweet he is and even though our vet guesses he is between 2 & 3 years old- most think he is still a puppy. We love our Maltese Bichon mix Louie!!
