Maltipoo Pups - Doobie"D"

by Paula
(Prescott Valley, AZ, USA)

I have one of the cutest Maltipoo pups who is about 1 1/2 yrs. I received him as a rescue dog. He is such a playful boy.

However the previous owner REALLY neglected him. I am now trying to figure out the best way to get him house broken and to listen alot better.

My Malti-poo is such a joy, I hope I can train him. I would hate to get rid of him. He loves to give kisses.

training your maltipoo
by: Susan

Paula, being patient is the one thing I have learned from our baby girl. She is a Morkie Maltese/yorkie mix and has traits of both. Her stubborn and sassy side I do believe comes from mom who is the Yorkie. We crate trained Belle from the beginning. We got a nice crate/kennel (not a wire one) and it' big enough for her to turn around in and be comfortable but not for her to have the space to go potty in it. She goes to bed when I do with her crate by the side of my bed. The first few nights she fussed some but we just told her no! Now she sleeps all night and we even get a little nap in the afternoon. We live in Minnesota and Belle is 9 months now and not quite 7 pounds so we decided to pee pad train her. As soon as she comes out of the crate she goes right to the pad. Then she is rewarded with lots of praise and a small potty treat. Belle is prissy so I use a newspaper on the pad so I can change it more often and not go through so many pads. She also has a seperate pad in the den where she poops. If I don't happen to see that she has done that, she comes and barks at me to be sure that she gets her treat. I ignored her one day and she came out of the den dragging the pad so I could see what she had done. They really like praise and attention! Belle isn't really good at listening yet, we are working on that at a steady pace. She likes to bark a lot, and gets hyper excited about squirrels in our yard. I have started using a squirt bottle of water and spraying her with a stream when she barks. It usually stops her. When she has watched the squirrels for a short time without barking, I tell her what a good girl she is and she gets a training treat. She does know what no bark means when she cares to listen! It's a day by day have patience kind of thing. But, it's so worth it from the love you receive in return.

Good luck with Doobie and he will come around. If he was neglected before there may be a trust issue involved, but just love him amd praise him and that will develope quickly.

Belle says to tell Doobie good luck getting his humans trained like she is doing!
