Love my Benji NEW
by: GailAnonymous

Benji was adopted from a rescue center. He is the most loving and protective boy. He likes to stay very close to me. I call him my Velcro dog. There are times when he sounds like he is trying to talk to me. I couldn't love him more.♥️

Identical to my sweet Baby, right down to the belly rubs, tugging ears, and sleeping between us. Does Sunshine have skin problems, excessive itching?

Cairn Terrier Mix - Walter

by Cathy
(California)

Walter's a Baby - 14 weeks

Walter's a Baby - 14 weeks

We are not sure what Walter is, but we believe him to be a Cairmal (Maltese Cairn Terrier mix). We believe someone lost their small family member because he was only 10 weeks old when he located us at our local shelter. Since no one claimed him in the 5 day waiting period, he became our new baby.

Walter is an extremely friendly puppy and loves to run and play with kids mostly and but will put up with the adults if kids are not available. He enjoys playing with his 20 pound Cat Brother, "Riley." Since Riley is older, he gets a bit impatient with Walter. But Walter doesn't mind, he just keeps paying with Riley.

Whatever Walter's breed; its special just like him. One day Walter showed off his RAT catching skills. I screamed, he looked surprised and Riley, the cat, was nervous that he may lose first position for saving Mommy from RATs. Walter keeps his nose to the ground in the backyard, always searching for something... rabbits or just any vermin underground, I guess. It's really neat to watch him go.

Our Maltese Cairn Terrier puppies smart, easy to train... he does the basic commands with the exception of the paw shake. Walter shakes, using his left and/or right paws on command. I've even taught him to blink. He does not, however like to get in trouble. There's no need to yell at him or put a finger in his face. Your tone and body language is enough.

Walter is approximately 1 year old now. I've attached pictures, and if anyone has a better idea of his breed, please do share. I'd like to share more photos in the future.

Paws NEW

My baby doesn't want to give up her paw no matter how I try to get her to do it. She plays a game with it, pulling it back wanting me to reach for it! She also likes to keep her nose to the ground, sniffing something out, loves to dig for moles.

by: mimi

Does he have a pink nose? It's one of the cutest things about my dog Snuffles. I am unsure of her heritage as she is a rescue but am almost certain she is at least part cairn (definitely a terrier!).

Walter
by: Amy

Hi, I agree with Casey, he is definely a Cairmal. Looks exactly like our Florrie when she was a puppy.
She has all the same traits too, nose to the ground, sniffing every inch. She is also good at the hand shakes and high fives! Again, she hates to be in trouble and can't stand anyone raising their voice in the house. She has such a good nature, rarely barks and have only heard her growl once. She loves children and pensioners!! She has a facination for people with grey hair and if we're on a walk, if she see's someone with grey hair on the opposite side of the road, she'll go up on her hind legs and watch them for ages. Everyone calls her the Meerkat! Again like Nelly, she was dark ginger when she was young. She's now two and a half and very, very blonde. Nice to see a new Cairmal on the site. Amy

Hi! I think Walter is DEFINATELY a Cairmal, i have one and he is the spitting image of our Nelly when we first got her. Hunting for rodents or small animals is one of the strongest traits in a Cairn Terrier.
How is Walters Fur? Nelly is 1 and a half now when we got her she was Black/Brown, now she's Blonde...she just keeps getting lighter and lighter in color, i'm really interested in finding out what's happening with other Cairmals...

Cairn Terrier Mix - Pumpkin

by Ena
(NYC)

Pumpkin is very intelligent. Our Maltese Cairn Terrier mix communicates very well with human language, and for the things he doesnt understand he will tilt his head. This shows he is trying to comprehend what your saying. He is the most playful and hyper dog, I've ever came across til this very day. He is super awesome with children because he has the energy to play with them allllll day. He is quite the affectionate dog, loves to cuddle and give and receive kisses. He is quiet for the most part, unless you do not greet him and he feels he cant get over it, he will bark to tell you how he feels, then he'll play with you. When we have company over he will pick up all his toys and bring them to play with our guests. Our Maltese Cairn Terrier mix is independent and loveable to everyone.

Cairn Terrier Mix - Max

by Valerie
(Baltimore, Maryland)

Max with his first toy!

Max with his first toy!

We are not sure what Max is, but we believe him to be a Cairmal (Maltese Cairn Terrier mix).

We found him at a local shelter 2 months ago. We were told he was a Cairn Terrier mix. We believe he is about 2 ½ years old and he is 15 lbs. He is very attached to us and follows us wherever we go. Max seems to have a bit of separation anxiety and is sad if we leave the house. He LOVES to be around adults, children and other dogs!! Max is a hunter dog who LOVES looking for rabbits!!! We are in the process of training him basic commands and he works hard for praise, scratches and treats! Max is a great addition to our family & is loved very much!

If anyone has a better idea of his breed, please share.

Thanks so much!!

Cairn Terrier Mix - Sassy

Sassy is an interesting little Cairn Terrier mix. She's about 6 months old right now, and weighs about 7 or so pounds. She's got super soft hair, but seems to have a lot of Cairn in her. My Cairmal loves playing and wrestling, but at the same time, loves to hang out in your lap for hours!

by: Casey (Nelly's Mum)

It took me all this time to come back to this website!

I've been getting heaps of e-mails and updates from them, and wondering whats going on with all the other little Cairmals, but i've been too lazy to check in :)

Sassy looks just like nelly, even her ears! What are they doing now? I met a little Westie X Cairn and the owner said that the hair growing on its ears weigh them down so they are floppy.... Are Sassy's going floppy? I really want Nellys to, they look satelite dishes and that she could communicate with outer space!

Cairn Terrier Mix - Bones

by Kim
(New Jersey)

Affectionate, loyal, protective. Our Maltese Cairn Terrier mix loves to sleep and eat and go for walks. She's smart and understands many words like walk, go out, go in Bone's bed, let's go to the beach, give me your paw, want a treat? She's fine without a leash EXCEPT on busy streets - she has no concept of cars or traffic. Negative-barks incessantly when the door bell rings. Over all our Cairmal is a very sweet, nice, affectionate dog.

Maltese Cairn Terrier Mix - Bobby

by Ian
(Birmingham, UK)

Bobby Bobkin

Bobby Bobkin

My Maltese Cairn Terrier mix Bobby was an accidental cross! Her Mom was a 2 year old Maltese who, the breeder discovered, could climb. Her Dad was a 4 year old brindle Cairn.

She is a beautiful little thing, full of life, stands like a Meerkat and loves even cartoon dogs on he telly!

She loves to explore, comes to the office with me each day and has been a really positive addition to our family - my other dog, Sue, is a now 15 year old wheaten Cairn and Bobby has breathed new life in to her, that's for sure.

Too adorable! NEW
by: Coco's human

He looks just like my little Coco! It's funny that you mentioned a meerkat, because I always thought the same about Coco. I actually bought Coco at a pet store. She is apparently a "designer dog". Her brother had the floppy Maltese ears, but Coco sure did take after her Cairn mother. She loves to chase our cats and the birds on the beach.
