Havamalt Puppy - Alfie

by Jacki
(Muncie, IN)

The day I got him =)

The day I got him =)

My Havamalt puppy is the most precious dog ever. He's not yappy, but he's very alert. He loves playing, and long walks. He easily adapts to your schedule. During the school year, he knows we get up early, he goes out, he naps while I'm in class all day, then we play for hours when I get home. But during the summer, we go on a walk early, then we take a nap together, and eat lunch together. He falls into a routine easily.

He's wary of most men, but he's never not liked anyone. My Havamalt is super friendly with other dogs. He loves playing with big dogs, but he's adorable when he's the big dog among my friends Yorkies. He hates sharing his toys, but he turns it into a game when you steal them. He doesn't shed at all. Which is amazing. He loves string cheese, so we share one every night.

Being a college student, I didn't take the time to train him to do crazy tricks, but he's insanely well house trained. He loves to cuddle on rainy days, or any day you need cuddling. He's pretty much the perfect dog.

What a cutie!
by: Little Miss Muffit

That is an adorable dog. They are the sweetest of dogs with the cutest personalities. Thanks for sharing. My Morkie, Muffit, has similar coloring. I think they are beautiful. Muffit is beautiful when she's combed and brushed, but a rag mop otherwise!

Havamalt Puppy - Molly

Molly playing outside in her favourite pink sweater :)

Molly playing outside in her favourite pink sweater :)

My Havamalt puppy Molly is the most lovable dog in the world. Even when she gets into things or wont let go of your pant leg, you could never get mad at her. She LOVES belly rubs more then any dog I've ever met. You can't walk past her without her laying on her back and hoping for a belly rub. She is the sweetest thing who loves playing with kids, dogs and especially cats. She'll let you do anything to her, its so cute!

She is almost 5 months now and she weighs 8 lbs, she was fairly easy to house train, as she only has the occasional accident now. I couldn't imagine life without my little molly bear <3

Havamalt Puppy - Pippin

by Carmen
(Grand Rapids, MI)

How can you not love me!?

How can you not love me!?

Pippin will be 5 mos. on June 20th. He's such a cutie and gets along with the other pets (older Beagle mix & older cat) Though he does love to play alot so they get tired out quickly. It's funny to watch him wrestle with the cat! I can't believe she puts up with it!

He's such a little puffball. His new favorite thing to do is stand inside an upside down frisbee and 'dig'.

Only bad thing is on the rainy days and dewy mornings his little fluffy feet and belly get soaked!

Maltese Havanese Puppy - Elvis Elwood

by Teresa R.
(Tyler,Tx)

Elvis Elwood's 1st Day w/ the Family.

Elvis Elwood's 1st Day w/ the Family.

Elvis Elwood is a bouncing ball of fluff. We got our Maltese Havanese puppy when he was 14-weeks-old, and he came into the house as king. He rules the Scottie and the cat, and pretty much rules the humans with his adorable personality. Elvis Elwood's mother is a 5 lb. Havanese, and his father is a 3.5 lb. Maltese. We think he will be about 4 lbs. when he is grown.

Everything is a toy to our Havamalt puppy E.E., but he is easily distracted with a proper toy when he chooses an item not mom-approved. His favorite place to sleep is in Mom's closet with head firmly nestled in her stinky gym shoe.

Training a Havanese/Maltese
by: Anonymous

Elvis Elwood has been a breeze to train. He has an old brother (Scottish Terrier) who was quite helpful in showing puppy EE the ropes. The first step in potty training EE was to take him outside frequently. I told him to, "Potty like a big boy." each time we went out, and praised him each time ("Good boy. You pottied like a big boy!") Now, he will potty on command so there is no standing around waiting for him to "decide" if he needs to go or not. This is a lifesaver when time is short because of human obligations. LOL. He doesn't do tricks, but knows and responds to every command that he is given, and he learned them through everyday conversation, not training. My only criticism of EE is that he is an excitable barker. "Yip yip yip", whenever he is excited about something good or bad. I recommend this breed!

I'm a dog lover interested in adopting a puppy. I am married and have one son, who is 18. My son is also a dog lover. I have a couple of questions: I have had Maltese dogs since childhood and only one was house broken. How trainable is a Havanese/Maltese? I am talking about house breaking.
I had a Bichon/Maltese and his coat matted badly. How is the Havanese/Maltese coat, especially if it gets any rain on it?

My Ruby
by: Jacqueline

Hi there 🙂
I’m so happy to know there are other Havanese/Maltese dog owners to talk with. Our little girl Ruby is 3 years old and is absolutely the fur love of our lives. She isn’t spayed because I would love to have her mate with a small Maltese. One perhaps two litters of puppies, then I will have her spayed. She weighs 5 lbs. and has dark grey and silvery grey hair with white areas on her chin and chest. I love her so much. I would post a pic but I’m not savvy as to how to do that. Hava great week!

Havamalt Puppy - ACE

by Susanne
(Phoenix, AZ)

Ace @ 9 weeks old, all 3 lbs of him!

Ace @ 9 weeks old, all 3 lbs of him!

I've had my little bundle of love for a week now. When I met my Havamalt puppy, I joked I was going to name him "personality." I named him Ace because he reminds of an ace of spades card. He is soft and silky, black on white and makes me giggle. He likes little spaces and has already taken to his little crate although he has access to the whole kitchen and is already wee wee pad trained. My Maltese Havanese mix barely cries at all when I have to leave him alone and isn't bothered by loud noises. He tries to demand attention with a small clear bark or a little whimper but responds immediately to a firm but gentle "No."

After suffering the painful, unexpected loss my sweet 10 year old Lhasa Apso, Shea, who never wanted anything but to be with me all the time, my human loved ones encouraged me to get a new puppy to love to help me heal. Boy, were they right... although the hole in my heart will always be there, I'm in love all over again with this adorable Havamalt puppy!

I completely understand you. I lost my maltese 5 years ago and it's been very difficult for me to get another puppy until a week ago. I am anxiously awaiting my havamalt puppy and although I never thought I could ever get another dog, I'm really looking forward to meeting my puppy. I'd never heard of the mix before and all the reading i've done has been very positive. Thanks for sharing your story.
