Maltese Pekingese - Phoebe

by Berlin
(North Dakota)

Phoebe just turned two! We love our Maltese Pekingese dearly. She is the smartest dog and very sensitive, jealous too! It would never work out if we had children because she IS the child of our house and needs all of our attention! (I suppose that's our fault!!)

Her Mother was a Maltese and her Father was a Maltese - Pekingese, 50/50. She's not a barker but she will alert you if someone is here to visit. She understands most of the English language I think, did I say she was smart??!! Very! Lisa took the descriptive words right out of my mouth in her post about Pika, I think I have her clone!

Thank you everyone for sharing your comments and pictures. We truly think the Peke-a-Tese is the best little dog to own and if I my hubby (and Phoebe) would let me, I would own more than one!!

What a fluffy, soft dog!
by: Little Miss Muffit

Thanks for the photo and comments on your adorable puppy. She looks more like a soft stuffed toy than a real dog. I think Maltese must be highly intelligent. Muffit is a Yorkie/Maltese mix. Her mother was the Maltese. Muffit catches on to what you say as well and learns very quickly. She is box-trained and has used it since we brought her home at 8 weeks. She is four months old now and never misses! She is a tease and gives our German Shorthair a race trying to catch her and steal her toy. Of course, that has taught her to tease me as well when she takes something I don't want her to have!! But we dearly love her, too.

Maltese Pekingese - Sissy

by Amy Percifield
(Valparaiso, Indiana )

Our Maltese Pekingese is the cutest dog in the world! She is pure white. She loves everyone in our family but is especially loyal to me(mom)! She has been a bit hard to potty train but she is now 8 months and has very few accidents. She isn't a lap dog. She loves to play and loves kids. She has a lot of energy. She gets sling really well with our other 2 dogs which are huge Newfies! All and all we love this dog and would recommend a Maltese Pekingese mix! Lots of fun and absolutely adorable:)

Maltese Mix Pekingese - Hookie-Lau

by Victoria
(Long Island, NY)

Hookie-Lau

Hookie-Lau

My family and I brought our Maltese mix Pekingese Hookie-Lau home about a year ago, at the time he was 5 months old. He was living in a large gated area with about 10 other small dogs. When we brought him home he was scared at first; new people and a home without any other animals. He was petrified to be alone, he would wimper and cry when no one was home, or even when we left him alone downstairs. He would not sleep unless someone was downstairs with him. In addition, we had to buy gates and block him from going upstairs, and in carpeted areas of our home. Housebreaking took a few months, and still he will not go to the bathroom outside unless we take him for a walk. We still must leave newspaper down for him if we are gone for more than 2 hours. He shredded and chewed EVERYTHING he could get in the house. I have lost count of the number of pairs of shoes he has destroyed. Once we left the closet door open and he got hold of an entire sheet of wrapping paper which was shredded into little bits.

But as time went on, my family and I learned, and so did he. Our Maltese Pekingese is comfortable in our home, doesn't mind spending time alone and can sleep alone as well. He is loving and adorable. At times, he is very jumpy and can bite when he thinks your are playing with him, but he is still young and we know he is trying to be playful. His energy level is through the roof and he loves running around outside and going for walks. He loves attention and loves when visitors come to the house. He is a little picky about his food, we had to try a few brands before we found one that he liked. Now, things are much better and everyone in my family loves our dog!!

My Maltese Pekingese mix is one yr old and absolutely one of the sweetest dogs I have ever owned. I found him while searching for a Pekingese puppy. I was unable to find a purebred like the 12yr old cherished pet I had recently lost. He was four months old and from the beginning played endlessly with all my outside cats and the old sweet dog of my husband's. He follows me around to every room... great watchdog and great with all visitors too... my Pekingese would snap at visitors and children so very glad the Maltese sweetness came through!

Pekingnese Maltese Dogs - Roxanne & Beautiful

by Lela
(New York)

I two Pekingnese Maltese dogs. Roxanne is what u call the baby of the two she loves to be held, and pampered. She tends to get jealous when you give the other dog attention, but however Roxanne must remember shes not the only dog {lol}.

Beautiful is very self center and independent, she loves to play and bark out the window. She doesn't like to be held very often but every other day she wants to be bother you.

The differences between the two is Roxanne has face and the small body of a Maltese and long hair on her ears compare to Beautiful who has the body of a Pekingese, her teeth stick out and short hair on her ears.

Pekingese Mix with Maltese - Scooter

by Brian Ramey
(Columbus, GA)

Her name is Scooter. My Pekingese mix with Maltese is very brave and very protective. Makes a good guard dog. She is playful with people and never bites or gets out of control. I've had her since she was a puppy, she is eleven years old in September 2012. I had her all through college and graduate school, she used to stay up with me while I studied. She is really the best dog ever.

Maltese Pekingese - Mickey

by Mickey's Mom

Sept. 20, 1996 - Feb. 22, 2011

This is so hard to write, but I want to submit an update on our sweet little Maltese Pekingese mix, Mickey. He passed away here at home Feb. 22, 2011. As I have said before, he had a heart murmur. Last Oct. the vet put him on blood pressure and diuretic pills to help his breathing. He did okay until about two weeks before he passed. He was frisky one night and the next day he started not wanting to eat as much and lost weight. He had good days and some bad days, but he always went around with us during our routine here in the house and went to potty outside.

The day he passed, I thought he was having a pretty good day and he even barked at a neighbor. But late that afternoon we were in the living room and Mickey was in his little soft bed. When he got up he collasped and had a seizure. My husband and I got down on the floor and comforted him until his last breath. He seemed to be unconscious so I hope he didn't suffer. We put him in his little bed curled up on his side and covered him with a little quilt I had made for him. We also added some of his favorite things. Our Maltese Pekingese looked like a little angel laying there. We put it in a heavy duty plastic container and sealed it. He joined our little Malti-Poo in our back yard.

Mickey was 14 years and 5 months old. We had him for almost 10 years. Needless to say we are heartbroken. He was a sweet and gentle dog and we truly loved him. His little spirit will always be with us.

Here are more pictures of Mickey when he was younger:

Jeri,

Thank you for your kind words. I'm so glad you found your Ollie, he sounds like a cutie. It is hard to think about getting another one when you're heartbroken. I wasn't sure about taking Mickey when he was offered to us but I am soooo happy that we did. He brought us almost 10 yesrs of smiles. My computer is full of his pictures.

I hope you have many many years with Ollie.
Yes, we are neighbors. I know a sweet lady from Somerset named Jane.

Take care and God Bless!

I am so sorry
by: Jeri

I cried when I read your post. I'm sooo sorry you lost your precious Mickey. He reminds me so much of my Ollie that it makes me question whether Ollie is Maltese/Shih tzu/ or Maltese/pekineese. We lost our Toby...a collie/spitz mix that we had from 6 weeks old till 15 1/2 years, so I know how hard this is on you. When we lost Toby (from a stroke), I thought I'd never get over it and said I didn't want another dog because it hurts so much to loose them....but after a few months I decided to try and fill that void in my heart...so I went searching and found Ollie. What a joy he is! I can't imagine not having him around. He just makes me smile...and isn't that what we all need....to smile? I hope that when you're ready you'll find that perfect pet..like I found mine. God Bless You! P.S. We're neighbors...as I'm in Somerset:) Take care!

Little Miss Muffit and OdyMaltese,

Thank you for your sympathy. I just can't put all of Mickey's things away so soon. I have a crying spell every day. He is in our backyard flower garden next to Annie our Malti-Poo. She passed in 2001 of kidney failure and we got Mickey five months later.

God Bless all the little Maltese and Maltese mixes and their owners here.

Mickey
by: Little Miss Muffit

I'm so sorry that Mickey is gone. I know how it hurts to lose pets we've had for so long. We lost both my Chihuahuas (15 & 13) two years ago. They are in the back yard garden. A year later we got Miss Muffit, a Morkie (Maltese/Yorkie) at 8 wks. old. Picked her out at two days old. We adore her! I hope she will be with us as long as your Mickey was or Chevy and Chip were. Little dogs live a lot longer which is really good. It just isn't home without a puppie pal.
