Maltese Shih Tzu Mix - Maxwell

Helping my Dad to dig a hole!

Helping my Dad to dig a hole!

Maxwell, our Maltese Shih Tzu mix, is two and a half years young. Quite a head strong puppy, he loves to go to his favorite place the DOG PARK, were he meets all his friends.

Maxwell is very clever, he knows by name twenty of his toys, I can ask him to go find a toy and he will run up-stairs and down looking for that toy so we can have a play.

He likes a good cuddle only when he feels like one. But he always likes a cuddle in bed for 5 minutes before he jumps out into his bed for the night.

Maltese Shih Tzu Mix - Lucy Loo

by Doris and Greg
(Hermosa Beach, CA)

My Maltese Shih Tzu mix Lucy Loo is very funny and from the minute we brought her home we had to name her Lucy after Lucille Ball, because she had us laughing immediately. It was like she was on stage running back and forth down a very long hallway we have in the downstairs portion of our home.

She was afraid of our old kitty cat Smokey at first but now they are best buddies and chase each other daily. Lucy is 6 months now and we adore her, everyone asks us, where did you get her and what is her breed?

She is tri-colored like a Shih Tzu but predominantly white like a Maltese as indicated on your website. She has beautiful black tips on the long straight pieces of coat and black tips to her ears. She is developing a bit of a curly coat underneath and is getting more playful and adorable every day. She always has a smile on her face and has brought incredible sunshine to our empty nest!

We can't imagine our lives without her now and love her funny and happy personality. She is a little watchdog as you mention and courageous to boot. She loves children and is extremely gentle with my 93 year old Mother.

She is clever and a quick learner and has mastered numerous tricks already and loves to play "fetch" which helps burn off that puppy energy. She is our little darling... even my husband has bought her little outfits for the holidays. Lucy is our little bundle of JOY!!

Buttons our new baby
by: Joanna

Our new puppy, Buttons, 5-1/2 months old is so precious. He seems very smart. Has learned to use a doggie dog to the outside yard, sits when we ask him to, loves to ride in the car. Never has cried, goes into his kennel at night without a fuss. Hardly ever barks, except when we play with him. What a joy he is.

Lucy Loo is a doll. I have a new Maltese/Shih Tze mix, and his name is Samson. He is black and white. I already had a black Pug whose name is Bruno. Having a Pug you instantly know why they call them the clowns of dogs. But when Samson came to our home, it was instant love between the two. Samson thinks he is the boss. Hops like a rabbit and runs as fast, flying through the air. Jumping down stpes, skipping four at a time. Winston the cat has welcomed Samson as Bruno now leaves Samson alone.

Maltese Shih Tzu Mix - Tiba

by Peggy
(Irvine, CA)

My husband and I adopted our Maltese Shih Tzu mix from an employee that no longer was interested in her. We got her 7 months ago and she was 2 years old.

She is adorable, pretty, completely house broken, sleeps all night and loves my husband, myself and my grown daughters.

Very big problem is that our Maltese Shih Tzu absolutely hates other dogs. She tries to attach them and is violent. She has been called the terrible dog, wild and even worse. People cross the street to stay away from her. But she is so small and just the prettiest everyone wants to pet her. No way. We live in a 55 plus area and if we don't do something about her they will ask us to get rid of her. I can't do that. Will a trainer help and why is she this way?

Tiba
by: Little Miss Muffit

Your Tiba must have either never been socialized around other dogs or animals or she may have been attacked by another dog himself or is overly protective of you. I suggest you watch "The Dog Whisperer" or get his books on working with dogs with this problem. I suggest that if you take the time to stop his aggressiveness (since he is small enough to hold), and then calm him while still in the presence of the other dog. Then let him sniff the other dog's hind end and vice versa. He needs to learn that other animals are not a threat. That comes from lots of socialization. I'm sure that your fears feed his. You need to stay calm and assertive when approaching other animals or humans. And you need to be the "pack leader." Dogs take over when we don't. They aren't born aggressive.

Maltese Shih Tzu Mix - Lilee

by Michelle M.
(Ontario)

A beautiful girl

A beautiful girl

My son purchased our Maltese Shih Tzu mix Lilee last October with money he had saved from his birthday.

We got her from a breeder, and quickly realized that she was very ill -- within the first five days of having her, she had to have a complete dog-to-dog blood transfusion in order to save her life. She was full of hook worms, which had made her severely anemic and lethargic, but we managed to save her. After two months of medication, she slowly turned into a puppy -- very playful, loving, cuddly. Although she still has some issues due to her early health problems (including some mental and physical developmental problems and gastric issues which require special food at the vets), she is doing well.

She is very playful and loves to torment our other dog (Pug Poodle Boston Terrier mix) by stealing her toys and jumping on her when she's trying to sleep. She loves going for walks and playing fetch with hacky sacks, and will sit (not very patiently) for her special hypo-allergenic treats. She loves people, but is very much attached to me - she likes to sit on my feet while I'm in my office and will occasionally try to sneak up into my lap while I work if she thinks there's opportunity to do so.

The only issue we have with her is her seeming inability to learn to go to the bathroom outside. It's been a constant struggle with her, and just when we think she's getting it she will back slide and it's like we have to start training all over again. Luckily, we don't have a lot of carpeting in our house or the accidents could become a deal breaker for us. I'm hopeful that, with the nicer weather coming, we will have a whole summer to work on this issue with her.

Regardless, I would highly recommend a Maltese x Shih Tzu to anyone who asked me -- despite the problems that Lilee has had, she has become an integral part of our family.

She's Adorable!
by: Brenda

I, too, live in a cold climate. Minnesota actually. I got my puppy i nthe middle of winter and thought "oh my, how am I going to potty train her when there is 3 feel of snow on the ground!" Contrary to some people's beliefs, I tried the potty pads. My Baby (the grandkids named her), took to the potty pads immediately. She has only had 1 accident in the house since we got her at 9 weeks old. She will go potty outside anytime she is out there, but with working and everything the potty pads are a blessing to have. If she has to go when we are gone, she always uses her potty pad. You may want to try that with Lilee, it amy make it easier for both you and her... I have also considered possibly litter training my little girl. The vet said these dogs are actually quire easy to litter train. Just a thought. Good Luck!!

Maltese Shih tzu Mix - Cookie

by Rebecca
(Pennsylvania)

Cookie (Monster)

Cookie (Monster)

My Maltese Shih tzu Mix or Malshi's name is Cookie. She is like my child, I just love her to pieces. She is so smart, she learned to sit, lay down, shake in like 20 minutes. She learned to roll over in 10 minutes.

She absolutely loves kids, she seems to have formed a special bond with my grandson. Justin is Cookie's kid. She is obsessed with squeaky tennis balls, she will retrieve them for hours if I am willing.

I got my Maltese Shih tzu mix when she was about 7 months old, and have found she is a verrrrrrrrrry fussy eater. She prefers people food over dog food, hands down. This is funny, my daughter just laughs so much at this, but many times I spoon feed her to get her to eat. My daughter says, "That dog owns you." I think she is right.

I also have 4 beautiful cats, so that was a concern to me.... No more, I am not sure if Cookie thinks she is part cat or if the cats think they are part dog. Of course the cats are all as big or bigger than Cookie, so maybe they think she is a strange looking cat. My Malshi truly is a joy and my special baby.

Maltese Shih Tzu Mix - Gigi

by Nunu
(Honolulu)

Gigi

Gigi

My name is Gigi and I am a Maltese Shih Tzu mix. I have a long story to tell. We all have bumps in the road of our life, some big and some small, some hard and some easy, but that is how God made life.

Lets start from the beginning of my life... it all started about 5 months ago, when I was born into my litter. I was taken away from my mother to soon as my current owners tell. Someone took me away from my mother and my home sweet home Pennsylvania and they took me to a large pet store in NJ. I was trapped in a bin of many other dogs (not of my litter). I was disgusted. There was a deafening silence each night when I would go to bed in a pile of wood shavings filled with poo, and the stench of urine each day. I would see people picking up dogs and stabbing them with needles then throwing them back into the infested wood boxes. Each time a child would walk by and say "Mommy, I want that one!" with the biggest smile on their face. That makes you feel happy no matter what environment you are in. Trembling for your mother, you would just cry, cry, cry for hours and hours until your voice hurt. Two weeks later, someone finally saved me from this hell they called a home. A young man and his girlfriend came up to me and "checked me out" at the cash register. Taking me home he said to her, "She is for you", but her parents wouldn't let her keep me. The young man then gave me to his mom, and I was perfectly fine with that as long as they didn't bring me back to that house of horrors. But somebody else wasn't too happy about it, her pet chow dog. Halloween night she brought me out trick-or-treating with some relatives. All I have to say about that is that I am not the kind of dog who likes children jumping out of bushes and ghosts. Then my owner went to a special house... I could feel it... inside of my heart. A young girl about 10 years old ran outside and started petting me gently, and her Mom spoke of their heartbreak of the loss of their pet earlier in the year. The next day my owner left a note on their door saying I am for sale. Yes! Yes! Yes! "Finally, a house and owners worthy of me", I thought as they were driving me over, and when they left they did not take me with them.

That was my big, hard, bump in my little Maltese Shih Tzu life. But there is a catch with these bumps... they always lead to happy endings. Now I am currently at my home with the best owners I could have, and I know they won't be leaving sticky notes on any door saying I am for sale. They tell me every day how I was the answer to their prayers and I am in my forever home.

My wife and I have a little Maltese Shih Tzu Mix (Male). We've had him since he was about 5 months old, he is now 2 years old. He has brought much joy to our family. He loves everyone and thinks everyone should love him back. He really enjoys going from lap to lap, getting his belly rubbed. I saw this story about Gigi and know just how Gigi's family must love her. Our Chip loves treats and he knows how happy it makes us when he uses the puppie pads we put down inside the house. We're so happy everything worked out so well for Gigi. Wish all people were as happy to please other people as our Chip.

Kasey Kahne - Maltese Shih Tzu Mix

by Vickie

Kasey Kahne, our beautiful little boy

Kasey Kahne, our beautiful little boy

We have the most beautiful Maltese Shih Tzu mix dog in the whole wide world. The fact that he is named after Nascar driver Kasey Kahne, only makes him that much better.

He belongs to my daughter, her husband, and two boys. He is the son of my Shih-Tzu, Lil-e who is named after Nascar driver Dale Earnhardt Jr (aka Little e) thus Lil-e! I know... we are all a bit crazy around here.

My daughter and her mother-in-law wanted a puppy from Lil-e, and we decided at the last minute to breed her with the daddy of my beautiful Maltese Maisie, thus the beautiful puppies Izzy and Kasey Kahne.

Kasey has a {lot} of the Maltese temperament. He is a lot like Maisie, only bigger. Here is a picture of him with all his hair, right before I cut it all off. He is actually a lot smaller than he looks in this picture, you would not believe how much hair he had! He is actually long and thin without the hair, he looks more like a Maltese... only not exactly white!! But he is beautiful and we love him.

Maltese Shih Tzu Mix - Cutie Pie

by Dee
(Long Beach, NY USA)

Cutie Pie. What a ham!

Cutie Pie. What a ham!

Cutie Pie is a Maltese Shih Tzu mix also known as a Malshi or Shiatese. He is now 3 years old. He is very loving and sweet tempered. Once he gets to know you he is very sweet, but he needs to warm up to you. I sometimes call him "barkie boy". He does bark at anyone who passes the house, whether on foot or in a car, so he is very territorial.

He does love to be brushed and pet, and is a real ham. Our Maltese Shih Tzu loves his picture taken and will let us pose him, put hats on him and dog clothes.

Cutie loves to play ball and will hit it with his nose , like air bud! He is a real kissy boy, he just love to kiss us and sit on our laps. He loves all of us, so he spends some time with each of us at night, going from room to room, spending a few hours at the foot of each of our beds.

No matter where we are, he has to be in the mix. Last summer I was setting up my daughters swimming pool, and as I was filling it up I was in the middle of the pool. Cutie could not bear being so far away from me, so he took a leap and jumped in! I just love my Maltese Shih Tzu Cutie Pie!

Your Owner seems quite obnoxious.

You only comment here to promote your own website on almost every post that appears here.

Would u like it if everyone directed their posts on on your website, to their own website?

I have to say I looked briefly at your website, but with every subsequent view here, seeing your "cut & paste" posts, I am not remotely interested in what you have to offer.

Enough said!

P.S
I am just a person who is interested in Malshi's.

Maltese Shih Tzu Mix - Daisy

by Rose Marie
(London Ontario, Canada)

Daisy is a 14 week old Maltese Shih Tzu mix and she is a treasure!!! She is very lovable and wants to be cuddled. I have trained her to ring a bell at my door and she trained in 3 weeks (I have had her since she was 8 weeks old).

She is 4.7 pounds of kinetic energy who plays until she drops!!! I am trying to find information about her chewing (she chews anything and everything including my phone card) because I am worried that she might hurt herself.

She is VERY vocal when reprimanded, barking and growling when I say "NO" to stop a behaviour. I don't know if this is specific to the Maltese Shih Tzu mix or just puppy behavior. Daisy is my precious little "girl" and she brings me great joy. She is a keeper for life!!!

Update on Daisy
by: Rose Marie

Just wanted to update about my "precious" little "girl". She is 14 months old now and weighs 9 pounds. The vet tells me she is full grown and I think she is the perfect size.
Daisy loves to be with people. She welcomes evreyone who visits with a lick and a nuzzle.
She wants to ackowledge anyone or thing that passes our house so she perches on the back of the sofa and purveys the street and barks at all who pass.
Daisy loves to ride in the car and she accompanies me often on my shopping trips. She is also a hospital visitor at the veterans hospital and she is a big hit with all the wheelchair bound veterans.

I got my gorgeous Maltese Shih Tzu mix almost 3 years ago when I was suffering from a eating disorder. I got her to help keep my mind off myself and think about something else. 3 years later I'm all over my eating disorder and I call my dog my life saver.

She always seem cheerful and always in the mood to give me a cuddle. I often think that she thinks she's a large dog, as I have two Belgium Shepherds and she will often play with them by chasing them, it's really cute.

My Maltese Shih Tzu is so friendly and loving. I haven't had any bad experiences with her. Toilet training has been hard but she's getting alot better. She's my sunshine, she turns 3 on the 1st of August and I couldn't be happier with my baby girl.

Ringo

My Maltese Shih Tzu mix Ringo just turned 14 weeks! I've had him 10 days today and he's adjusting rather well. We've had a few bumps in the road from his 1st night here. He was sick but you wouldn't of known it. Ringo wanted to be held all the time, so he was held all the time!! Waking at 5:00a.m, crying and barking for 2 hours and then repeating the same ordeal in the evening. Finally after 5 days and nights there is peace and I get some ZZZZZs.

He still thinks on occasions he hears a rooster crowing at 5, but he goes back to sleep when he realizes he's not on the farm any more. My Maltese Shih Tzu has become my little clingon, eats when I eat, sleeps when I sleep and plays when I play. A little Romeo sweet heart... a joy in my life!! I'm a 1st time Malshi owner and am very pleased!!!

Oh My My, what a really adorable guy! I love him, too and I've never even met him!I have a Maltese Bichon mix and I think he's one of the best Maltese mixes, even though if I was to find him a baby brother, I think I would look at the Malshi's. they really seem to be a good mixture too!!!You are very lucky to have such a cutie!!

(Perth, WZ)

Max is a very fun and very energetic Maltese Shih Tzu mix. He loves playing with children and babies. Max is very friendly with other dogs he loves to eat toys. My Maltese Shih Tzu is a very good guard dog and he barks in the night because someone is trying to break in or something.

Maltese Shih Tzu Mix - Gizmo

by Chanterian Hunter

Gizmo the day we got him!!!

Gizmo the day we got him!!!

Gizmo was a Maltese Shih Tzu mix dog that the breeder couldn't sell. Everyone wanted the smaller, 4-6 pound ones and he's about 10. The breeder had so many other puppies he received very little attention and was kept in a wire pen in her garage and he would bark or so she said. They never even gave him a name because she dubbed him the barker. He was the only dog left and the oldest, 6 months old. She was just going to give him away to get him out of her hair.

A good friend bought a different breed from her months earlier, and she came back to inquire about breeding herself and he was still there. When my friend asked her what was going to do with him she said "Give him away because I can't sell him, he's too old now." My friend came home and called she knew that my 3 son's desperately wanted a dog because they had never had one before.

I went to go and look at him and he was so beautiful! We took our Maltese Shih Tzu home and got him used to being loved and held, and he has come a long way. When we first got him he didn't even know how to play with a toy or anything. Know he loves to go for a walk, play wrestled with his "brother's" and it's the cutest thing to watch him look both ways before crossing the street. I never would have believed that having a dog would change my life but it has and he'll have a good home until the day that God takes him home.

My Puppy Mac NEW
by: Jan

My granddaughter gave me her 9 month old maltese Shih Tzy as she was moving and couldn't take him. At first I was not to happy but let me tell you......there isn't anything that I wouldn't do for him. He is there at the door when I get home and is the light of my life now. I would like to get him a brother to play with as I am away at work for most of the day. We play at night and I take him for walks and to the dog park on my days off.

What a great story!
by: Little Miss Muffit

I think that little dog is very lucky to have found a family that loves him for what he truly is--a grat little dog! I think the word "teacup" any breed is silly! When they are as cute and cuddly as your, who cares how small they are. There love is gigantic! You are a great family for realizing the potential of a dog who has so much to give.

Maltese Shih Tzu Mix - Beau

by Emma Hunter
(Swindon)

My Maltese Shih Tzu mix is two years old, white and soft peach in colour is very affectionate, likes to be cherished she sleeps in our bed and constantly wants attention. She is very pretty good with children and animals. We have 3 rabbits who she likes to sit in the garden with and share their carrots she grooms them, she also likes to sit with the hamster and groom him. She stands on her hind legs and puts her front paws together as if praying when my husband and I have cuddles she doesn't like to be left out. I love my Maltese Shih Tzu mix as much as I love my kids and husband and she's always happy to be my baby.

Maltese Shih Tzu Mix - Bella

by Laura
(Berea, Ohio)

Bella is a 2 yr old Maltese Shih Tzu mix. She is lovable and fun with a ton of energy. She will go on 2 walks a day for a mile and a half each and is still ready to play! My Malshi comes to the softball field with me in the summer and loves everyone she meets. Adults and children alike take well to her, as she does to them. My Maltese Shih Tzu is also mischievous in the cutest of ways. Besides playing and long walks, she enjoys tearing her stuffed animals to shreds so that there is stuffing everywhere and all she is paying with is the squeaker. She is my lil devil!

Maltese Shih Tzu Mix - Dede

by Casey
(Texas )

My Maltese Shih Tzu mix Dede is all black with a white chest and beard. She is so smart and def the ring leader of my pair of dogs ( I have one full breed shih tzu). She is stubborn but knows what is right and wrong. She rarely barks and is great with children. She's def a lap dog always wanting to be held and you can hold her in any position and she doesn't care. She will wait by the window for you to get home. I absolutely love her!

To LuLu and LoLLy
Your Owner seems quite obnoxious.

You only comment here to promote your own website on almost every post that appears here.

Would u like it if everyone directed their posts on on your website, to their own website?

I have to say I looked briefly at your website, but with every subsequent view here, seeing your "cut & paste" posts, I am not remotely interested in what you have to offer.

Enough said!

P.S
I am just a person who is interested in Malshi's.

I am not promoting my own causes, but am sincerely fed up with your attempts to lure folks to your own website.

Maltese Shih Tzu Mix - Lacy

by Dina
(Keizer OR)

I love my Maltese Shih Tzu mix named Lacy. She is now 4 years old and I can't remember a time without her. She is loveable, loyal (mostly to me), smart and sometimes stubborn. She loves to please EXCEPT when she really wants to do something else... i.e. chase a cat (playfully). You can see her thinking "do I do want I'm told or do I do what I want" she usually goes with "do what I want" then decides "do what I'm told". My Malshi is quite playful and sometimes has what I consider a "spaz attacked" and runs around the house or yard full speed in a circle around furniture swing set etc. She is confident yet at times very timid... she doesn't especially like riding in the car but I don't take her very often. She is very smart and learned housetraining and tricks easily, she is wonderful with cats and plays with them gently. She does bark sometimes out of control to new people (or consistently with my husband) and has become aggressive to people (men) when I'm not around... loves EVERYONE when I am around... not sure if that is a breed personality or just her quirkiness. I would recommend a Maltese Shih Tzu mix dog to most anyone!

Maltese Shih Tzu Mix - Scooter

by Rachel
(Napa, CA)

Scooter

Scooter

My 2 year old Maltese Shih Tzu mix is the most adorable little man you could find. This sweet little boy follows me around everywhere I go and even waits outside the bathroom door while I shower. When he is thirsty and is too lazy to walk to his water bowl he stands on his hind legs and does a funny attention getting growl to let you know he wants to be picked up and taken to the faucet, where he is too small the reach the water out of the spout so you have to cup your hands and put it to his mouth. My Malshi is the brother of 2 other dogs and is always last to eat. He was the runt of his litter and is small for his size, about 5 pounds. He sleeps in my bed every night, always under the covers until he gets too hot and comes out from underneath the covers and onto the ground where he spreads out his whole body. When I sneeze he is so concerned and immediately starts licking my face trying to get the sneeze away. When I leave the house without my Maltese Shih Tzu mix, which is rare, he sits on the back of a couch and stares out the window for what could be hours until I am home where he will not stop jumping until I pick him up and starts barking if I don't immediately. Everywhere I go Scooter follows me and is right by my side. He loves playing with balls and is what we call a little "mighty mite" very tough for his size and can jump upwards of 5x his height! My life has completely changed since I have found this little dog and brings joy to my every moment, I KNOW he loves me and the feeling is mutual. Best dog I've ever had.
