Maltipom - Marina

by Kristine Groves
(San Jose, CA)

Marina as a Puppy at the Park

Marina as a Puppy at the Park

I had been dying to get a dog after I moved out. Being that I lived in a smaller apartment, I thought that a small dog would work well for me.

I was visiting Monterey, Ca on the warf with my girlfriends where a family was showcasing their Maltipom puppies for sale! (This is how I decided on her name) The father was a small carmel colored Pomeranian, and the mother was a beautiful Maltese. These puppies were the cuties little fluff balls! and everyone on the warf was drawn to the family of puppies. The second I picked up Marina I fell in love with her carmel colored eye lashes, and big brown eyes...there was no way that I could deny her.

She is a beautiful cream color with hints of carmel color on her ears and tail. She was playful and very curious, and I knew that we would be instant companions. At first, Marina was very difficult to handle. She was extremely hyper, and and hated to sleep (which I hear that most puppies love to do!...not her!) She whined at night and required a lot of attention, she also was difficult to potty pad train. I had taken the advice of Cesar from dog whisperer and introduced grass and commands to use the potty. Now I take her outside say "go potty" and she goes!

After a lot of work and patience, Marina has developed into a very smart/ obedient dog! She is the love of the dog park. She would rather jump on the laps of all the owners because they all rant and rave at how cute and soft she is, and she would rather the petting and praise then play with the other dogs! Maltipoms can become difficult to keep clean and groomed, but they do not shed, and she is softer than a bunny rabbit. I take her to the groomer regularly every 6-8 weeks, with baths/blow drys between)

She is 4.5lbs full grown so I have had to be really careful with choosing a groomer because we have had some very bad experiences with her soft skin. So do your research!

By the way, Marina has developed a nick name from my husband from a very bad haircut that i had attempted. I trimmed her face hair too much and she looked like she had a shrunken head...so her name became "beetlejuice" and cut down to "beetle." She entertains herself by picking up her toys with her mouth and tossing it with the flip of her head, it is the cutest thing in the world! She has calmed down a lot after her spay, but she can still tend to have her hyper moments!

I've always treated her like a "big dog" and have taken her everywhere with me. She is confident and lovable with everyone she comes in contact with, especially small children. She is so carefree! She is now almost 2 years old and I could go on and on how cute and amazing she is! I cant express enough how much I love my dog, and how lucky I was to find such a gem!

Muppet the Maltipom

by Joyce
(Australia)

Our Maltipom Muppet is 6 years old and was given to me as a surprise Xmas present when she was 2 months old. Her 'big brother' is Jack, a Jack Russell/Fox Terrier cross who is 7 years old and came to us when he was 1.

When I first got Muppet she was very quiet and a complete snuggle bum. Within a few months she clearly decided to be the top dog and rule the roost. She is a complete Mummy's girl but will snub me if she can't get her own way. She knows that it is Daddy who will sneak her treats so always aims for his lap when he has a cup of coffee and a biscuit!

Jack taught her to run after a ball and play 'fetch'. When she comes out of the bush without her ball and I tell her to go find it, she goes back in and then looks at it and barks to tell me where it is. She will also bark to let me know if her food or water bowl is empty or if she needs to go out. She does tend to be a barker and usually sets Jack off. She will bark when people come into the garden but once they are in the house she is quite happy to make use of their lap.

She loves my grandchildren to bits and gets so excited when they come. Both dogs have always slept in the laundry at night and we have never had any problems. She HATES being bathed but makes a beeline for the water when I take her down the beach. She also objects to being groomed, having her hair cut and being put into kennels when we go away. She will ignore me for at least a day after I pick her up, even if I don't drop her off in the first place. She is a tri-colour and VERY pretty, but knows it. She walks like Lady from 'Lady and the Tramp'.

Because of her size we cuddle her like a baby because she loves to lay in your arms on her back. She may be upset soon as I am about to get a Maltelier puppy but no other dog could ever replace her in my heart.

Maltipom with Personality - Mugsy

by Corinne
(Plymouth, MN)

Mugsy

Mugsy

Mugsy, my Maltipom is a wonderful dog whom everyone is drawn to when we go out. We have 5 dogs total, 3 Poms, 1 Pom Yorkie mix and then Mugsy and everyone always wants to know about him.

I got him as a puppy and he had some medical problems but once diagnosed with IBD and food allergies we were able to get it under control with a prescription diet. It is now 6 years later and he has no problems.

He has the neatest personality, is very loving, and gets along with all of his brothers and sisters. He has one ear that flops over and when you talk to him he tilts his head, it is so cute!

I keep him in a puppy cut and that seems to work best. He even has pajamas for the winter (can get cold here in Minnesota) and he will actually wait for you to put them on before he goes in his kennel at night to go to bed.

Maltipom - Bruno

by Heather
(Rhode Island)

We got Bruno from a near by store and they told us he was half Maltese and half Yorkie. Come to find out, he really is a Maltipom. I found out by calling the phone number that was on his medical records. I only called to ask why do they have down Polanese and they stated that was another name for Maltipom.

I am not sure if he really is a Maltipom but he is the greatest joy to our house hold. He is a little over 1 yrs old, about 12 pounds and very lovable. He loves his squeaky toys, running, playing in snow and his walks everyday. He is great with kids and other dogs.

He does bark for the first ten minutes when others walk in the house, which we are trying to figure away to calm him down.

Besides the barking, he is the best dog I have ever had and we love him very much.

Maltipom - Truffles

by Teresa
(NC)

We have a teacup Maltipom by the name of Truffles who everyone calls Babies because she is so small and loving.

Our Maltipom looks more Pomeranian. Her ears stand straight up and the fur on her legs is short. The only thing with my Maltipom is her fur, when you bath and brush her she is beautiful after a couple of days even with brushing her fur looks like dreadlocks. I don't know what to do. Do you cut them or do they grow out of it as an adult, she is only 7 months old.

We love her very much she may be small but she does have a little devil in her, not mean she just shows you who's boss. We keep a bell on her collar so you know when she's around and doesn't get stepped on.

Puppers the Maltipom

by Gayle
(Zephyrhills, FL)

Zephyrhills, FL

Zephyrhills, FL

Puppers is a Maltipom. Her mother is Pomeranian and her father is Maltese. She has three brothers. The boys all look like the mother and Puppers is the only one that looks Maltese.

The biggest difference we can see is that her color is a cream rather than the usual pure white that you see in Maltese. However, she is the cutest little thing, very loving, obeys well and loves to play and run.

She will be one year old on October 12th. We got her at 8 weeks and she has been a real joy to us. She was very easy to housebreak and although mischevious from time to time she is well behaved most of the time (BOL).

Special Maltipom - Gentle

by Annette
(Queensland, Australia)

My Maltipom is the first dog I've ever owned, and she's fantastic! I think I could of named her "faithful", for she is just that, never leaves my side, always has to have Mum in sight! She is a yapper, barks at pretty much any strange noise she hears, which can be painful at times
(especially for the neighbors).

Gentle gets on well with my children. They all adore her, except at meal times. I have warned the kids not to play or pat Gentle when eating, she can become snappy and possessive of her food (or her treats, bones etc).

Gentle is now 7 months old,and thank God shes out of that puppy stage... she drove us nuts for the first four months! She has grown up that bit more and doesn't rip everything up like she did. Gentle has the most expressive eyes, she knows everything I say and do, she's a true little friend.

I would say a Maltipom is a one person dog, although Gentle loves everyone in our family, everyone knows, it's Mum she wants!

Amy the Maltipom

by Carren Love
(Victoria, B.C.)

Cute Maltipom Pose

Cute Maltipom Pose

My Maltipom Amy came from a responsible breeder who wanted her to have a forever home after having 3 litters. We had to pay to have Amy spayed to prove she was wanted as a pet.

At 4 years old Amy is the most beautiful, loving, smart, funny dog, I have ever met, who loves fresh carrots peeled and washed. Amy is also known to help her self to the cherry tomatoes off the vine. We have only had her for 3 weeks and she is showing us what a trooper she is. Coming from an isolated farm setting to the city has been quite a learning curve. Traffic on the street, walkers and joggers on the chip trail all made Amy cry to be lifted up. This I did to assure her she was safe. On the trail we would go a little further each day and every time we got into new territory she would turn and cry to be picked up again I would reassure her but not carry her.

In the last three weeks Amy has come to trust me and no longer fears a walk in the street when a car passes I just pull the lease a little to let her know I'm there. On the chip trail I can now let her off the lead and she always comes when called. I love to see her free spirit when she runs at great speed and literally flies over clumps of grass with her front paws delicately cross and her back paws straight out.

When getting a cuddle Amy lays her head on your chest and looks up as if you are the most wonderful person in the world. At night when the lights go out and the TV is turned off she races to the bedroom and jumps into her bed so she is there to greet us when we come around the corner. Amy is a very special little girl who has walked in to our hearts.

Rescued Maltipom - Beanie Wells

by Lea
(Columbus Ohio)

Beanie is a year and a half old Maltipom that was beaten and neglected. From the moment he was rescued he has been the most loving dog and is very clingy to me, which I'm sure stems from his past. He freaked out the first time I put him in a fenced in yard and didn't stay out with him, because when he was mistreated he was left in a backyard all the time regardless of the weather.

I've never seen a dog jump so high, he can jump right into my arms when I'm standing. He learned that he can't sit in my lap when I'm using the laptop so he taught himself to lay on the back of my couch across my shoulders, it's adorable. He is an amazing dog and I don't understand how anyone could beat him.

George the Maltipom

by Tammie
(Tennessee)

George is a very spunky and athletic little Maltese Pomeranian mix. He has been a joy to have as our first family pet. He was very easy to train. He does have one problem that we cannot seem to tame. He barks viciously at all moving vehicles as they are driving by the house. He only barks at the cars-no people or other pets. I can no longer take him for a walk during heavy traffic hours as he is uncontrollable.

He sleeps with us in our bed and has been the best pet ever except for that one minor issue.

Smart Maltipom - Bogey

The smartest Maltipom ever!

The smartest Maltipom ever!

Bogey is very smart and learns very quickly. My Maltipom is the most loyal dog I have ever owned. I am handicapped and my friend bought him for me so I would have a companion.

He is a great friend, loves everyone but is very loyal to me. Is by my side wherever I go. He does bark way too much, but we are working on that.

Everyone that meets him wants to take him home. Even my groomer says he is the cutest dog she grooms.

MaltiPom - Bella

by Jane
(Orono, MN)

Bella the MaltiPom and her KiKi

Bella the MaltiPom and her KiKi

Bella is a Pomeranian Maltese mix. She is the most intelligent and affectionate dog I have ever had and I have had dogs since I was 5. I am 47 now.

She loves to do everything with our family. She loves going "bye bye" in the car and rides behind my neck. We live on a lake and she even swims and boats! We have two other dogs, an 80 pound golden retriever (12 yrs old) and a Grek mutt (3 yr old) that Bella bosses round constantly. It is a hoot.

Bella sleeps in bed with my husband and I with her head on a pillow and under the covers. She has her own "kiki" (blankie) and loves chew toys. She has a stash of toys under a futon in our home office.

She is a character and I don't know what life would be like without her. My two daughters just walked in with her one day without notice. They knew we didn't want to add to our menagerie, but knowing Bella, we sure do love her!

Angel - Maltipom

by Anita
(Newfoundland, Canada)

Dressed up with our neice

Dressed up with our neice

Angel is very cuddly. Her mother is all Maltese 6lb's and her father is a Pomeranian terrier 4.5lb's, which is where she got her small size from her dad. When I first got her at 7 weeks old she had a black face, head, ears. Her legs, chest under body and tail was white along with the back or her neck and bum and above her tail. In the middle of her back she had a rust color. Her brother was all off white and her sister was white with black spots even on one eye.

I liked Angel for her tricolor. She is now 13.5 months old a little over a year. She is now almost all white, her face, head is white. The white in her stayed white and the rust grew out to be off white the black except the ears grew out to be white. The ears are less and less black. The rust is a different texture then the rest of her.

She is a very cuddly quite dog that plays ball in the basement and outdoors with me. She sleeps with us on my pillow. So I got a 3/4 length pillow. She loves to go for a walk and when she decides to run, boy can she run. For the first 6 months she would whine in the car. Now when you say do you want to go for a drive in the car she will run for the door.

She has herself wrapped around my boyfriend's little finger. He takes her in his car to work as he works from his car just about every day. She is not a yappy dog. She will let you know someone is at the door or if she hears something in the night. She doesn't care that she is only 4.5lb's.

She does not shed and loves to meet someone new or old. She no longer sees me at the door when I leave for work. She stays in our bed after being out for the washroom and we say goodbye to her there. She don't come to the door and whine that I'm leaving like she used to. However she goes crazy for me when I come home. She will kiss me like crazy and after the welcome is over she doesn't kiss anymore but wants to play and cuddle and sleep on her cushion.

I have doggy steps for her for our bed and for our chesterfield. Before I got the doggy steps she would whine alot to get up and down because she either wouldn't or couldn't jump and doesn't. We put carpet tiles down one on each step in the house for her to go up and down on because she wouldn't or couldn't do the hardwood floor. She still will only use the carpet pieces and the doggy steps. This is good because jumping down for short legged dogs is hard on their legs and could cause problem as the get older. She should have no problems with that because she does not jump or need too.

I have been told she is the perfect dog and of course I believe that to be true.

Maltipom - Murphy

by Bann
(Ft. Worth)

Murphy is our 18 month old Maltipom. We are first time dog owners and she couldn't have been a better choice. She is loyal, affectionate, great with strangers and the grandkids.

She loves to go everywhere with us and waits for us to return home from work every day. Just today we took her with us to the pet store and two little girls just went crazy over her as she tried to play with them and kiss them.

She has been a picky eater and she was a bit hard to potty train but those were minor inconveniences compared to the love she showers us with. Everyone who meets her falls totally in love including her groomer and vet.

Smart Maltipom - Triscuit

by Christy
(Orlando)

My Maltipom is the most loving and expressive dog I have ever come across. Triscuit really is quite the people pleaser and is her happiest when all eyes and focus are on her.

She loves to snuggle in bed, and is friendly with other dogs. She is weary of big dogs and will cry if one comes bouncing up to play, but can handle herself with small to medium sized dogs. Triscuit is not much of a barker either, but she will whine at you to get your attention at what she wants.

She is now 10 months old and is well trained in my opinion. She can shake hands, play dead, speak and knows key phrases like "walk", "it's time to go to bed", "ride", "food", etc. Due to the small size she is extremely portable, easy to carry around, and most importantly easy to clean.

Beware of the fine hair these little dogs possess. You really do have to groom daily or terrible knots do occur. Maltipoms are extremely smart and aren't afraid to ask for some affection. I wouldn't trade mine for anything.

Sweet Maltipom - Princess Skyy

by Crystal Hart
(Holley ny)

Skyy is a three year old Maltipom. We got her when she was just 7 weeks old and not even 1 pound.

She is the sweetest, most loving, nurturing dog we have ever known. She loves her big brother Blue our Rottie and to watch the play together is so funny that we often turn off the t.v. and just enjoy the comedy in our living room.

She loves everyone and won the hearts of all of our "big dog" only friends and family. She has truly been the best blessing ever.

Spunky Maltipom - Iggy

by Kelly
(Davenport, IA, US)

We adopted our Maltipom Iggy about 7 months ago. We don't know much about her except that she has been a true blessing to our family. She is so sweet and full of spunk.

We think she is 5 years old and has a great personality and loves being with the family. She doesn't like being alone and I literally have a shadow wherever I go. She minds very well and just a great dog all around.

We lost our full breed Maltese a little over a year ago and when Iggy came to our lives, she reminded me so much of our little Allie. We sure love her and the kids absolutely adore her!
