Shitzu Maltese - Sam

by Wonderwoman
(Mooresville, NC)

I am Sam I Am !

I am Sam I Am !

Sam is our five month old Shitzu Maltese and the very best dog we could hope for.

He loves to go for his walks, romp in the leaves, knows his house manners, has learned sit, down, stay, and is really having fun with a hula hoop jumping lessons.

His favorite toy is a life sized stuffed squirrel. His goal is to be able to keep the real squirrels off the deck and out of the bird feeders.

Our Shitzu Maltese lives with us on a large lake and in a house with a Blue Fronted Amazon Parrot named Tony. They co-exist really well... Sam picks up the loose seeds under Tony's cage and Tony will bark when Sam barks.

Sam goes to his his "ladies" at the groomers once a month and loves to strut his stuff after the groom.

He is a real love - and we love our Sam.

Shitzu Maltese Firecracker - Obi

My Malshi, his name is Obi

My Malshi, his name is Obi

My Shitzu Maltese mix Obi is 1 year and 3 months old. He is a little firecracker! Obi is very hyper-although he does have his down time too.

Obi is an affection hog... all he wants is to be petted all day long-when he's not running a muck!

Obi is black and white and we like to keep him cut short. Obi loves people-but is not too fond of some dogs. Obi's best friend is a 2 1/2 year old Chug (Chihuahua and Pug mix) named Rocky.

Ava - Shitzu Maltese

Puppy picture, 3 weeks old!

Puppy picture, 3 weeks old!

Ava is a Shitzu Maltese mix and is now 2yrs old about 10-11lbs. She is quite the character! She thought she was the alpha in the house and completely bossed her 8yr old lab sister around. We finally have her being nicer to Belle and not so possessive with her toys.

She love's her tennis ball, carries it almost everywhere, she plays hard. She's a fussy eater and is very protective of our family. She takes a long time to warm up to others. She's very loving once she knows you, loves kisses and massages.

She whines to go in the tub. We have a very deep, large bathtub where she can actually swim. She loves to be clean and blow dried.

She will chose her own outfits and prances around to show off to her 80lb sister Belle, she knows that Belle can't wear clothes.

She can be very clever and mischievous. I love her so much she makes us laugh alot.

I am considering bringing one of these gorgeous puppies home. I love everything I have read & researched. We already have a 80 lb., 3 yr old male black lab. Just curious how you made the transition?? Our lab is a good boy, but still very frisky & never around little dogs or cats. My 2 daughters would love a little puppy like this. Tell me your thoughts.

Shitzu Maltese - Cherokee Schotzie

by Myka Ilao
(Philippines)

Hehe. I disturbed him, just to take this photo!

Hehe. I disturbed him, just to take this photo!

Okay, my Shitzu Maltese Tseroki Skotzi is a stress reliever for us:). Every afternoon, when I got home, he always meets me at the door with his waving tail. He stands at about 5 seconds, and we shout "WOW! Cherokee stood up for several seconds! "

Usually, pet owners sleep together with their pets. Yes, I do. He sleeps near me, then, if he feels that it's too hot at his situation, he will go under the air conditioner where cold air goes there.

Um, taking a bath? At first, we use soaps and shampoos for dogs. But we noticed that he smells bad. So, we changed his bathing items into items we use so that he will smell good like us, not like street dogs.

When my Maltese Shitzu saw a dog (bigger than him!), he will bark at it, then it will run away. Haha.

Um, feeding? Easy. If he scratches the door, it means that he's hungry. So I'll put his food on his plate with hot water. Then I'll wait for about 5 mins. After waiting, he'll bark again! It means that he's finished.

We always leave the door open, so that, if he need to urinate or *POOP*, my Shitzu Maltese will just pull that door.

Shitzu Maltese Trouble - Sadie

Our Shitzu Maltese puppy Sadie is 14 wks old. She is just as cute as can be, but we are having a bit of trouble with aggressiveness. When my husband is holding her and I try to take her she growls terribly.

Can anyone help us with this? We love our Shitzu Maltese sooo much, but we are not sure why she is like this. She is very smart and loves to be loved and we love loving her but I'm really worried... thanks

agressive Sadie
by: Susan

I also have a Morkie and she was starting the growling at others that tried to take her from me or pet her. I started immediately setting her down on the floor when she would growl and ignore her. A bit later pick her up again and have someone try to take her from you. The second she growls, set her down again and ignore her. Her main goal is to be held and cuddles. It won't take her long to learn if she growls, she gets no where. You can also give her a small treat when she does not growl. These little ones are very food orientated and learn quickly how to get a treat. Good luck, I know she's smart and it should'nt take long for her to learn.

Sadie
by: Little Miss Muffit

I have a Morkie (Little Miss Muffit) who is a Maltese/Yorkie mix. These little dogs do get aggressive about their owners. Muffit has shown some similar signs. They are confused about who the "boss" is in their pack. As much as these sweet and adorably smart dogs are, they become overly protective easily. You have to discipline them (not harshly ever) with being the "boss" or "pack leader." That means they aren't allowed to growl or be aggressive to anyone--least of all you. The same goes for other dogs or animals. You have to make them know it isn't allowed by telling them "no" and putting them down and ignoring them when they act that way. They are darn smart and will learn that if they want your affection, they must obey the rules. Good luck. It's working for Muffit.

Shitzu Maltese - Baxter

by Nicole
(Indiana)

My Shitzu Maltese Baxter is the sweetest dog I have ever owned and he is extremely smart. I call him my little wonder dog. He can dance, get his leash when you ask him to, barks when you say, "Say Please." He will also play dead when you yell,"BANG". He will go into his cage on his own at dinner time or when you ask him to.

He is so very playful and greets us with a toy when we come in the door. He loves to run and have fun. My Maltese Shitzu is very lovable and doesn't bark much and he gets along with every dog he meets.

He has been a wonderful companion and I can't imagine my life without him. He has made my life so much better. I love my little Mal-Shi, Baxter.

Spunky Shitzu Maltese - Daphne

by Claudia
(Cleveland, OH)

Daphne is an almost 2 year old Shitzu Maltese and one of the spunkiest dogs I have ever owned.

She's adorable and although she is the youngest pet of the house, she "runs" it. She is highly alert and even if someone is on the sidewalk walking past our house, she's barking up a storm. She is also eager to greet another family member at the or upon returning home.

She likes to play with our bigger dog, Max who is a Blue Merle Collie. They play fight all day long and it is absolutely adorable!

She is however, hard to potty train. We still have her on pee pads but she is not getting the point. Our Shitzu Maltese actually followed me into the bathroom and while I was doing number one, so did she! I think she's trying to get the point, but it's not quite getting there.

She does have favorites. She prefers to sleep with some, and others she follows around and "hangs out" with all day long. Daphne only comes when I call her. If anyone else does, it's about a 50/50 chance she'll come running.

Our Shitzu Maltese doesn't shed at all but requires a lot of grooming almost daily.

Daphne has the most amazing brown eyes and ears that tend to flop open when she's tumbling around or chasing the cat. She also takes little "cat naps." After about an hour or so, she gets up and is up to her antics as usual!

Shitzu Maltese - Benji

Right after his grooming session

Right after his grooming session

I got my Shitzu Maltese, or Malshi, a week ago and couldn't be happier!! He is so adorable, well behaved and so darn cute!

I've been wanting a dog for a long time, and he came into my life right when I need it. We adopted him from a local pet shop and so far it's been great. He is currently on a raw food diet and loves his treats.

My Shitzu Maltese is already a year old, needs a little bit of training when it comes to potty training, but he has been showing lots of improvement. Benji is such a gentle dog, has the sweetest face and loves to sleep!

I would recommend this breed if u like a mellow dog who enjoys cuddling.

Shitzu Maltese - Roxie

by Vicki
(Scottsdale)

Our Mal-shi or, Shitzu Maltese mix, is the sweetest dog ever. She is 2-1/2 years old. She is a very friendly, adorable, sweet dog. She is also a beautiful mixture of the 2 breeds Shitzu and Maltese. She sometimes barks at other dogs and get jealous when we pay attention to other dogs. She is a great watch dog and barks if she hears noises. She loves to go on walks and sleep with us at night. She loves attention and gets very sad when we leave the house. She misses us so much when we are not home and goes crazy when we get back home. She licks us like crazy. Sometimes too much!!!! She likes a lot of attention and follows me around the house. She loves to play with her toys and play fetch. She loves to have her belly scratched. She is our first dog and we couldnt be happier. Our only gripe is that her fur is very high maintenance!!! We get our Shitzu Maltese groomed every 5 weeks or so and bathe her every 2 weeks. She must be brushed constantly. Very hard to keep her from getting knots in her fur. She is wonderful... a great addition to our family.

Shitzu Maltese - Stella

by Sarah

Our Shitzu Maltese Stella is such a wonderful member of the household!

She loves walks in the park and is great with my young daughter. She's very watchful over her and if she whimpers while she's sleeping in her crib Stella runs in her room and checks on her.

I've only heard her bark a handful of times, one being when something was prowling by our window at 12:30am.

I do, however, only recommend these dogs for someone who can spend the time with them and give them the love and care they need.

Shitzu Maltese - Brucie

by Beth
(Athens, Georgia)

Brucie -- he's such a ham

Brucie -- he's such a ham

Brucie is one-third Shitzu and two-thirds Maltese and he is almost three years old. He was an "unexpected" gift (never say too many times how cute another person's puppy is!) but has been a great addition to the household and I can't imagine now not having him around.

Whether we are out of the house for just one minute or all day, our Shitzu Maltese sits on the back of the couch watching the door and when we come back into the house he acts like we have been gone forever and a day! We call him a "gigolo" because when my mother stays a few days, he spends the night going back and forth among the various bedrooms sleeping with everyone for awhile before going to the next person.

Brucie will sit patiently at the front door when he needs to go outside to do his business or just to play (unfortunately, we never can tell which one it is). If we don't notice him at first, he finally will give out a small bark to let us know that his patience has run out and he wants to go out -- now.

Our Shitzu Maltese is such a funny little dog!

Shitzu Maltese - Rudy

by Marli
(Moorhead, Minnesota)

His name is Rudy because he was born on 9/11. My Shitzu Maltese is eight years old but still acts like a puppy. He is very smart, he learns tricks very easily. He gives kisses, dances, walks on hind legs, says the word no, very well, if I ask him to give me a kiss without a treat he says no, and he says please when he is begging for my food. He is funny and loves to play keep away.

Rudy is mostly white with tan and gray ears. I can't imagine life without him. He is a companion dog. My Shitzu Maltese mix loves everyone, even likes cats. The only bad habit he has is getting tissues or paper towels and rips them in tiny pieces. Of course he only does this when I am in another room then looks at me like, what I didn't do that! I absolutely love this little guy.

My Dog Ate My Paycheck!!
by: Beauregard-Malti-Chon

Sounds like my maltichon! One night, I was upstairs and I could tell he had gotten into something because I could hear the faint sound of paper rattling and he was speed racing his course through our dining room and living room. I went downstairs to see what he had gotten into and he had nosed the zipper of my purse (hanging on the kitchen chair) open and had my paycheck! I chased him for a while, but the "let go of what you've got" at our house is a squirt bottle!!! My check survived. I keep my purse up higher now. We keep our shoes in tubs in the bathroom. We love our doggie boy!

Shitzu Maltese - Mr. Bubbly Buttons

by Symphony
(Ohio)

Bubbly, my Shitzu Maltese, became apart of my family when he was two months. He was so tiny. He was four to five pounds and full of energy. When we first went to the breeder to meet him he was so nervous he had spit bubbles pouring out his mouth. So he became Bubbly.

He lives with my boyfriend and I and when we wake up each day he goes through every room of the house to make sure both are home. He loves playing with his toys. We get kisses from Bubbly all day long.

When I lived with my parents Bubbly had a best friend, who visits a few times a week, my cat Hopey. He runs and plays for hours. Growing up with Hopey gave Bubbly slight cat instincts. Bubbly plays with his toys like a cat sometimes but we love him any ways.

I could go on and on about how and why my Shitzu Maltese is so special but the most important reason why is because he is my baby and loves me no matter what.

Spunky Shitzu Maltese - Rudy

by Marli
(Moorhead, Minnesota)

Rudy is a 9 year old Shitzu Maltese but don't tell him, he thinks he is a puppy. We became best buds when Rudy was just 9 weeks old. He is very smart. He learns tricks very fast when a treat is involved. He actually can say no. He is spunky, a tease, and funny.

He is about 16 lbs. Mostly white with tan and gray ears. His hair is silky soft and shiny. My Shitzu Maltese mix loves people cats and other dogs. He is not so keen on little kids he is a little leery of them poking his eyes and pulling his hair.

He thinks he runs the show even though I have been telling him the he doesn't for 9 years. He is the best the best I would get another Maltese Shitzu in a heart beat. He is loved very much!

Shitzu Maltese - Jerzey

Jerzey is a kind, loving, playful, sweet, Shitzu Maltese dog that likes to be held. However he is a little whiny needs reassurance but that might be because of us he might be spoiled. He loves my 12 year old son. He gets along with our Maltese Yorkie mix. He is laid back and likes to eat. Potty trained well. Took awhile to go downstairs, then again might be because he is spoiled. We love our Shitzu Maltese mix Jerzey, he is the best!
